Foxconn replaces ‘60,000 factory workers with robots’
Upgrade Yourself or You will be Replaced!
The 4th Industrial Revolution is happening NOW whether you like it or not!
One factory has “reduced employee strength from 110,000 to 50,000 thanks to the introduction of robots”, a government official told the South China Morning Post.
According to the South China Morning Post, Foxconn, the main manufacturer of Apple’s iPhone among other electronic equipment, has replaced nearly 60,000 of its factory workers with robots in order to cut costs. The move to an artificially intelligent workforce would also significantly reduce the labor costs in the long-term.
Honestly, this phenomenon is not something new. It just like a time bomb that may become reality regardless you like it or not. It is the sign of the new era of the 4th industrial revolution, where most of the jobs will be replaced by robots and AI (Artificial Intelligence)/deep learning super computer a.k.a BOTs. Most of the giant companies have taken the leap of implementing these technologies for the past few months since the end of last year 2015. Name a few of them such as Facebook with their Facebook Messenger bot, Microsoft with their Tay (bot), Domino Pizza with their first autonomous pizza delivery robot (DRU — Domino’s Robotic Unit), Amazon with their Amazon Drone Prime Air Delivery, and many more to come.
Along this phenomenon, there would be significant impacts on our daily life, including the way we interact with the technology, the way we make money, and most importantly the way we are going to lose some jobs along the way. There are two commons reactions we can look at it and examine the whole situation. The first reaction would be resisting NOT to change and blaming the whole circumstances, government, wages and policy makers, or even the technology. The second reaction would be going with the flow of the changes, not resisting to change, and taking advantage of better services. These new technologies could be create better and much broader opportunities for new business models with less reliability issues that are caused by human errors. Believe it or not, almost 60 ~ 85% of the accidents have been caused by human errors. These high numbers can be eliminated by implementing these high technologies. By the end of the day, it can lead to so called, the era of abundance, in which there would be enough food to feed everyone living in the planet earth. There would be no more power shortage for every single devices that you use. There would be a sustainable supply of the human needs by employing robots instead of human beings. So, in the end the human would be needed to be more experience, more knowledgeable, and more powerful on managing and programming the robots to fulfill human needs.
Are you ready for approaching to that abundance era? If the answer is yes, we need to change right NOW!
As a human being, we have to admit the fact that we are a learning creature. Since the beginning of stone age up till now in the millennium era, human is the most adaptable creatures that can either build or destroy the environment. So, we have to change ourselves to adapt to the change of using the robots. The change is inevitable. Nothing you can do to avoid the change. The only thing that you can and must do is to adapt to the changes every time it happens.
In the nutshell, if you are one of those 60,000 workers who used to have a job in a factory of some kind, sooner or later, the world’s workforce continues to switch over to AI and robots regardless whether you like it or not. The choice is yours.
