WORK EXPERIENCE

Excel Recruitment                                                                June. 2022

Worked as a member of the event staff for 4 concerts at Irish independent park. I worked with the bar crew, serving drinks, and receiving payments. This was a pressurised role with high volumes of people at the concerts. Complaints and disputes had to be escalated to management and security at times!

Eason & Son, Mahon Point, Cork                                                                                    Nov. 2020 to date

Eason Ireland is an Irish-owned retail chain, stocking an extensive range of books, newspapers, magazines, greeting cards, stationery, gifts, toys, and computer accessories.

I work part-time in Eason’s as a retail assistant, responsible for sales, for stocking stationery and newspapers and for merchandising all gifts. I also assist with several stock-taking tasks. I have been granted increased system-access to allow me to approve and process refunds and exchanges. I complete regular online training modules to keep up to date with new stock products (stationery and books) and have trained several new hires in the role over the past year. Working in Eason’s has exposed me to dealing with all sorts of customer queries and complaints and to multi-tasking efficiently.

Actons Hotel, Kinsale, Cork                                                                                            July-Sept. 2020

Actons Hotel is the oldest hotel in Kinsale, a 4-star boutique hotel with 77 guest bedrooms.

In Actons hotel, I worked part-time with the housekeeping team, responsible for cleaning rooms for stay-overs and departures, as well as ensuring the stock room for the housekeeping team was properly stocked for each floor. This was a pressurized, thankless job, requiring discipline, promptness and the ability to absorb criticism. I really enjoyed the customer service aspect though, assisting guests with various queries and requests.

Gift Ireland, The Glen, Kinsale, Cork                                                                                   06/2018-01/2019

Gift Ireland sold Irish-made crafts (store closed in January 2019)

In Gift Ireland, within a week of starting, I had full responsibility for opening and closing the shop, tracking sales, managing stock and doing cash reconciliations on my own daily. I moved all transactions from a manual process (pen and paper) to a computerised one (Excel), for ease of tracking. This role involved working with multiple nationalities and personalities and helped develop my customer service and communication skills. I regularly noted customer requests for the owner to expand stock selection and made suggestions on improving social media advertisements.

I worked full-time (4-7 days weekly) from June until August, often 10-hour days, and then part-time at weekends and holidays once I returned to school in September.

FireEye Ireland Limited, Mahon, Cork (1 week during transition year)                                                                                                                                                                                                                         11/2017

FireEye is a global cyber-security firm.

During my week’s work experience with FireEye, I worked on several data entry projects for the finance and marketing teams, which required updates in SFDC, Oracle and Excel, documentation in Word and PowerPoint presentations. I attended team and management meetings and the experience really helped me to understand how a multinational company works.

Little Stars Montessori, Dunderrow, Kinsale, Cork (1 week during transition year)                                                                                                                                                                                                                      02/2018

I spent a week in Little Stars Montessori, where I assisted the two teachers with looking after children aged 3 to 5. I read books, organised arts and crafts activities, played games and puzzles, took part in outdoor activities and supervised the children during playtime and breaks.

MBMG Sound, Tramore Road, Cork (1 week during transition year)                                                                                                                                                                                                                      02/2018

I spent a week with BMG entertainment, learning to be a DJ, beat mixing and beat matching.
