School Secretary – Cork- Full time – Permanent

Summary:

CREGG Recruitment are currently recruiting for a School Secretary to join a Secondary School in County Cork. Our client, in its proud tradition is committed in partnerships with parents, to enabling all members of the school community to achieve their full potential in a caring environment where mutual respect, good order, discipline and positive self-esteem are the values which guide us in our teaching and learning community.

As the School Secretary the role is to contribute to the smooth running of the school through the provision of a professional office service and to act as a key support to the School Principal in managing the wide variety of administrative tasks associated with running a vibrant school.

The Type of person who will fare best as a School Secretary is one that is people oriented, can multi task, understands secretarial duties, and is highly organised. The secretary has to complete work in a timely manner to meet deadlines while keeping schedules for teachers, principals and events.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as a first point of contact to callers, relay messages and transfer calls as appropriate
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Principal, and to support the Deputy Principal and teaching staff as policy directs
  • Ensure that the school and office operates in a consistently organised manner every day
  • Secretarial services much of which are confidential and sensitive by nature
  • Ability to maintain records with a high degree of accuracy
  • Coordinate appropriate documents for communication between schools and with the Department of Education and Skills
  • Management of school finances including cash collection, payments, wages, keeping accounts
  • Managing attendance records, admissions, and transfers
  • Assisting with pupil welfare
  • Act as a liaison between the community, the school and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing school data including GDPR and other regulatory compliance

 

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • At least 3 years in a similar working environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Manage a varied workload without compromising quality
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Friendly and approachable manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently and comfortably
  • Excellent computer and technical skills
  • Strong typing skills

Due to the nature of the post in a secondary school, a contract can only be finalised subject to vetting requirements of the Department of Education and subject to an undertaking to support the ethos of the school.
