Vacancy: Horticulture Project Worker, Part-time, 23.4 hours per week

L’Arche Cork is seeking a Horticulture Project Worker to maintain our new sensory garden to its full potential, engaging adults with intellectual disability (ID) to participate in both the sensory garden and in our horticulture project. The position is based at our Day Service hub, ‘Le Cheile. The role will be supported by the Horticulture Project Leader, support staff (as required), and participating day service attendees, and occasional volunteers. The project is being overseen by an expert in horticulture and will adhere to bio-diversity principles.

Expectations of the role:

• To help maintain the new sensory garden

• To maintain a vegetable and herb garden both for training purposes, and to supply the planned social enterprise café on-site

• To help support and encourage the participation of adults with Intellectual Disability in the Horticulture Project, promoting independence by offering only the required level of support (‘just enough’ support)

• To be person-centred, treating day service attendees with dignity and respect, adhering to best practice as per National Guidelines (New Directions) and as per organisational policy

• To work closely with the Horticulture Project Leader regarding both garden plans and the support needs of participants

Requirements for the role:

• Horticulture and landscape maintenance experience

• Advanced/Higher Certificate in Horticulture preferred
• Minimum QQI Level 5 qualification in Social Care or related discipline (mental health/psychology/health care) or willingness to acquire same

• Strong organisational skills – time management, work planning, and initiative

• Honed communication and people skills – active listening and teamwork

• Commitment to best practice, to regulation and/or guidelines, and to L’Arche policy, especially regarding safeguarding, upholding confidentiality, and accountability

• Some degree of flexibility in response to arising needs

• Full clean driving licence

• The post is subject to Garda vetting
